Dear Coaches,

Aim to increase autonomy and self-efficacy of your athlete. Coaching can be frustrating, especially when you have all the knowledge, and sometimes all the skill to carry out what you are trying to see your athletes achieve, and something just isn’t clicking.  In these moments it is crucial to take a step back, reassess WHY you are coaching, and hopefully realize IT IS NOT ABOUT YOU.  If you go in with the mindset that coaching is about fulfilling something for yourself then you will continue to be frustrated with yourself and the athletes you coach.  In this cycle of frustration, you are also increasingly likely to cause frustration in your athlete, and in their frustration they are more likely to perform in a way that isn’t productive to meet their goals and likely goes against yours. At EMCo the goal is to reduce frustration for all parties, by working with both the coach and the athlete, separately and together.
